Anyone know any details about the crash that happened a little past 7 PM on Saturday evening along Southern Avenue in South Williamsport right where Southern splits off and Riverside Drive takes over? The power was out to practically the whole Borough. I took a drive shortly after it happened and Maynard St. stop lights were out and there was yet to be someone sent to that intersection to direct traffic. I came back over on the Market St. bridge and even the Williamsport side traffic lights were out there as well. I headed up toward Mountain Avenue and folks were out chatting with neighbors (a site you don't see a lot of these days), and everything was dark. I've heard it was dark up past Beiter's even. I don't know for sure how wide spread it was, but I think it was basically the entire Borough and then some.
I heard one eye witness report that it was a young girl doing about 65 and jamming/dancing behind the wheel to her music. I heard another comment that she was drunk. I don't get the paper, but checked the online edition and haven't seen anything in there about it. I didn't even see anything mentioned on the local TV news - but then it's the Williamsport area and nobody died as far as I know. It was only a mere power outage to a shit load of people, but that's not new worthy for our Scranton stations, but if someone farts too loud in Hazleton we sure hear about it.
Whatever the case, the driver is damn lucky no other cars were near her when this happened and no one else was hurt. She (assuming my tips are accurate that it was a girl) should be punished severely for the havoc she caused the entire Borough. Power was not restored until 11:45 PM. She costs numerous businesses money and who knows how many people's electronics got fried with surges when she took out that transformer. If she was drunk then there is no punishment severe enough as far as I'm concerned.
