The average now is nearly twice that, at $3.53. If this is the new energy future Obama has been promising, we suspect most Americans don't want any part of it. In fairness, Obama can do nothing about unrest in the Middle East, which is driving the current run-up in oil prices. But temporary shortages of petroleum are not unusual and Americans expect their government to do something to cope with such spikes. During more than two years in office, Obama has done nothing to keep oil prices down. In fact, through measures such as his moratorium on some off-shore drilling, he has exacerbated the problem. Gasoline will become more and more expensive in the future, as world supplies of oil dwindle. On that problem, Obama's record is even worse. By promoting and subsidizing unrealistic "alternative" energy and doing all he can to harm existing, realistic industries such as oil, gas and coal, Obama is setting Americans up for a huge energy problem in the future. Despite the fact the jump in prices has been in progress for several weeks, the White House has taken no action to curb them. Again, if this is Obama's idea of an energy policy, we're all in trouble.
