I wanted to post this under the letters forum, but for some reason "new thread" was not an option when I was in there.
Anyhow, have you noticed the new copyright tag at the bottom of their online articles? Even the letters are tagged and it states
"© Copyright 2011 Williamsport Sun-Gazette. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed."
I wonder what prompted that.

Good morning Phil, Thanks for your interest in our "letters to the editor" section. I have approved your request to post these letters on your site for member comment. I enjoy the discussions many of these letters create in the community with our readers. We strongly support the right to free expression and believe the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, as the local newspaper of record, has the obligation to provide a forum for the community. We only request that you continue to credit the letters; "as published in the Williamsport Sun-Gazette". I will have our IT computer specialist contact you next week to set up access to the letters. Best wishes, Bernie

When you get official permission, I would ask Q to lock a post at the top of the LTE section with the information about crediting the articles. It might be easier than posting it with every letter.

It’s already part of each letter. I just copy and paste the whole thing.

It’s already part of each letter. I just copy and paste the whole thing. What are you saying is part of each letter? I'm not seeing any links or accreditation. My sense is that as long as you credit and/or link to an article, all is well. The fact that you contacted the SG basically seals the deal. Good job, Phil. Perhaps the SG, seeing our interest, might consider reinstating the comments scripts with each LTE on their own site. There are plenty of sensible people who could voluntarily moderate if the SG wouldn't employ one. Comments could be automatically locked as new LTE's are posted. A greater diversity of viewpoints would certainly result. Anyway, that's my two cents.

The SG appears in the heading of each letter.
Bernie said he’s going to have his IT guy contact me. I’ll see what he says about allowing comments on their site as used to be the case. I’ll also see if they can provide a link to this site, maybe with a note that people can comment on the LTEs here.

No wonder why the 15 year old was getting kick out of school for fighting...
Mother-daughter face charges after disturbance at high school April 8, 2011 By PHILIP A. HOLMES - pholmes@sungazette.com , Williamsport Sun-Gazette Save | A mother and daughter face charges following a disturbance Wednesday morning at the Williamsport Area High School, according to city police.
Tanya Dunn, 42, and her daughter, Laytoya Dunn, 24, both of 970 1/2 First St., responded together to the school at 2990 W. Fourth St. about 8 a.m. after Tanya was called by school administrators to pick up her 15-year-old daughter, Patrolman B.H. Laurenson said in an affidavit.
The teenager and another 15-year-old girl both were being removed from the school after they were engaged in an altercation, Laurenson said.
When the Dunns arrived at school, they picked up the teenager in the nurse's office. As the Dunns were walking through a hallway, the mother was heard yelling, "I'm going to kill these (expletive)," Laurenson said.
The Dunns then saw security officer Angela Medo escorting the other girl and Laytoya suddenly attacked Medo, striking her in the ribs as she attempted to shield the student, Laurenson alleged.
A principal managed to "physically restrain Tanya as she, too, struggled to go after the student," Laurenson said. Both Tanya and Laytoya were heard saying they were going to go to the girl's house and kill her, Laurenson said.
After hitting Medo, Laytoya allegedly punched school staffer Michelle Derrick in the mouth, Laurenson said. Tanya and Laytoya "remained combative and uncooperative until they left the school," the officer added.
Laytoya Dunn, a student at Pennsylvania College of Technology, was taken into custody on campus later in the afternoon and arrested on two counts each of aggravated and simple assault and one count each of terroristic threats and disorderly conduct. Following her arraignment before District Judge James H. Sortman, she was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $35,000 bail.
Tanya Dunn, who is charged with terroristic threats and disorderly conduct, will be sent a summons to appear before District Judge James G. Carn.

Ain't that the truth Judy. Back in the day if I got in trouble in school I got my butt beat there and then again when I got home. I'm sure Todd remembers 'Little Red' who had that big wooden paddle or 'George Amos' who had the big class ring he liked to bonk you on the head with. Or the neighbors would beat my butt and send me home to get it again if I got in trouble in the neighborhood. Sure is a different time now.
